USA Track and Field Championships

The Running Institute at the USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships

After a long day of travel Ron and I have arrived back in Michigan. We spent 10 hours driving and flying through the night before arriving back in Ann Arbor as the sun was rising earlier this morning. Our trip to Eugene for the USATF Outdoor Championships was a good but tough learning experience for all of us. The Running Institute had a strong presence at the Championships with two athletes, one coach, and one physical therapist. Will Leer and I raced in the 1500m and the 5000m run respectively, with Ron Warhurst as our coach and Pete Kitto as the physical therapist hired by Addidas to work on their athletes.

It was an exciting weekend with thrilling races all around. In the 5k I placed 9th in one of the most unique races I have ever run. The pace started out very slowly with a 5:48 first 2000m after which we ran 404 for the next mile. I have never run that fast from that far out in a 5k. It was a painful lesson and I did not come home the last mile the way I would have liked, but it was good experience. In the 1500m run Will placed 5th overall after chasing down 5 people in the last 100 meters. It was an exciting finish and he was just barely out-leaned by Andrew Wheating for 4th place. With some good races under our belt it will be exciting to head over to Europe this week for the start of a new adventure.

On a more local notice, the Running Institute is having its grand opening this Tuesday June 28th. Stop by our new location at 5700 Jackson Rd Ann Arbor, MI 48103. We are just behind the back of the Running Fit store and we look forward to seeing you soon.
