Luzern-Monaco

This past weekend Will and I traveled from our home base here in Leuven, Belgium to race in Luzern, Switzerland.  In the mean time Running Institute Coach Ron Warhurst flew across the Atlantic to met up with Sierra and Nick Willis for the Diamond League Athletics Meeting in Monaco.  It was an exciting weekend filled with personal bests, a national record, and perfect weather.

The meeting in Luzern was held last Thursday in a town nestled up against the Swiss Alps.  With great views came great weather and along with it some great competition.  Will and I both raced in the 3,000 meter run and it was the first time either of us had raced the distance outdoors this year.  It is a hard distance to race because it is not done that often.  I managed to sit back a little bit too much for my liking during the middle of the race, but in the end I came away with 5th place in a personal best of 7:51.37.  Will sprinted past me in the last 150 meters to finish 3rd in a time of 7:50.54.  It was fun race filled with a great atmosphere.

The most exciting thing that happened last week came the following night when Nick Willis put on a great performance in the 1500m run at Monaco.  He ran a smart race and closed very well to lower his own New Zealand National Record and his personal best to 3:31.79.  He is continually gaining fitness as he races this summer.  Watch both Will and Nick run another 1500m tomorrow in the Stockholm Diamond League Meeting between 905-915 tomorrow evening (Stockholm Time).  The schedule for the races can be found at this link: http://www.diamondleague-stockholm.com/en/Live-StartlistsResults/Overview/.

As for me, I will be racing a 1500m in Gent, Belgium this Saturday.  It should be fun to step down in distance a bit.  In the meantime here are a few pictures from our recent excursion to Switzerland.
